"Stephen Dean, His Grandfather's and His Aunt's Films" brings together one tourist film by Pierre Eschapasse and four short experimental films by Gretchen Dean. Both were shot in 1967, one in Iran, the others in Colorado. While one documents the exoticism of foreign cultures following the conventions of amateur souvenir-fabrication...the start/stop animation of the other investigates imagery, hypnotic rhythms of colors while reflecting on the nature of editing. All the footage was restored, arranged and produced by Stephen Dean specifically for this performative projection.
